summary for chapters 12~13
Once the two expeditionaries Canessa and Parrado safely reaches human population and are lightly treated and sheltered, the two immediately decide that rescue is urgent. Canessa and Parrdo both longs to help Garcia, the captain of the rescue helicopter. However, since Canessa was more ill and Parrado was better off and knew the way to get to the Fairchild, Parrado is the only one allowed to board the helicopter along with Garcia and the other rescue squad members. The weather is foggy and unclear, but that does not completely stop the rescue team. Garcia does his role, the medical staffs prepares for the rescue, and Parrado urgently led the path. Finally, Parrado spots the Fairchild, and yells at Garcia to slow down the aircraft. On the mountain, the survivors start losing hope and optimism. They assume that Parrado and Canessa gave up or has died in an avalanche-until they spot the helicopter with Parrado waving and yelping with a wide grin stretched upon his face. The survivors yelp and praise God for the ‘blessings’ that they have received by the rescue team successfully reaching them after over two months. However, since the two helicopters were not able to solidly land on the mountain side, eight survivors boarded the helicopter, leaving Delagdo, Sabella, Francois, Vizintin, Methol, Zerbino, Harley, Fito Strauch, and two medical staffs.
