A group of rugby player have been traveling to Argentina. when they were trying to come back, they had some problem with their plane and the weather wasn’t helping them either. In the end, the weather was just good enough to fly the plane. However, it wasn’t good enough. The plane called the Fairchild that was transporting the rugby player back to Chile had crashed. The plane had crashed in the middle of the Andes mountain. Most of the passengers had died but amazingly some still survived. However, even though a lot of them survived, there were many injuries. Thankfully, there were medical students such as Canessa on the plane. So they were able to do some first aid but weren’t able to treat it properly without equipments and medicine. They had broken legs, amnesia, one had a steal run through his stomach. They all had serious injuries. Another problem that they had was that they didn’t have food. Food was crucial for them however, there wasn’t much to eat in the plane. They had leftover chocolates and wine and some cheese but they needed more. Something more that they can get strength from.
The survivors started their diet on human flesh, the dead bodies from their friends. It was their only way to survive and the only way to get the strength. At first, most of them didn’t agree to this and they had an argument. But in the end, they all started to eat human flesh. After eating human flesh, they could feel themselves getting healthier. They were healthy enough to go on expeditions. While they were on expeditions, they found the tail of the plane and their luggages and some clothing that they lost. However, not all of the boys could keep up with their situation. A lot of them died and in the end there were only 16 survivors left out of 45.
Even though the human flesh were their major food source, it didn’t help them from dying. There was a huge avalanche which several people died in. They were stuck under the snow and weren’t able to get out. They got out of breath and started to die very slowly. The others who survived grieved for them and tried to prevent death from happening as much as they can but they were useless when it came to nature. From then, they were really careful whenever they walked around the mountain. As time went by, they thought that they can’t stay there waiting for help. So they went on their last expedition.
Canessa and Parrado were the two that were most eager to set out on the expedition. Both of them had very different personalities which made it hard for them to work together. However, they were able to manage it and move on. As they were walking, the human flesh that they packed was starting to rot and they were getting very desperate for more food. Then, something happened that enlightened their hope. They found grass and wild cows on the field. In the end, they also found men on horse. They found actually people other than themselves. Canessa and Parrado were saved. They told the horsemen that there were others that were trapped in the mountain. Finally after 72 days of harsh reality in the Andes.
Thanks to Canessa and Parrado, all of the remaining 16 survivors were saved and moved to a hospital for care. When they were all well, they got interviewed by journalists but the journalists didn’t appreciate their story, especially the part where they ate human flesh to survive. The newspapers said negative things about them. However, the survivors were all able to live in peace. They met their families and friends. Many people were hurt and crushed during this event but overall it was a happy ending and a good experience.
