summary for chapters 3~4
There are twenty-seven of forty-five people that survives. They melt snow for water. The survivors try to stay as positive as they can. Echavarren, whose leg got smashed in the crash, is trying to stay as positive as he can. Enrique Platero is also very energetic and brave even with the severe wound in his stomach.
Finally, Canessa says out loud what everyone is thinking about which is eating the dead bodies. Many people disagree at first because it is immoral and they feel bad for their friends but Canessa convinces them saying they need to eat it if they want to survive. They sometimes cook the meat to give it a better taste and is described as something that is softer than beef but pretty much the same taste.
Meanwhile, Páez Vilaró, a parent of one of the survivors keeps searching for the lost sons. He gets angry when he finds out that the Chileans have stopped searching for them. He contacts Gerard Croiset who is a person that has “psychic” skills and if he touches something related to a missing person, he can tell all sorts of information about the person. When he touches a map of the Andes mountain, he says that one of the engines broke in the plane, and there are survivors. Páez Vilaró get so happy in the thought of there being survivors. He asks a lot of people that he knows to fly a plane or helicopter over the area that the survivors are at but he never sees anything since the Fairchild is white and it blends in with the snow.
Páez Vilaró goes around in villages asking to join him to find the lost rugby players but no one seems interested. They say mean things to him such as calling him a lunatic since he is so passionate about finding his son.
Although he keeps searching and searching and asking for help, nobody seems as worried he is about the survivors. Sadly, he goes back to Montevideo, Uruguay.
